Karrey Pierce Hill recently made us some sugar cookies and mentioned that this was Grandma Pierce's recipe.
Sugar Cookies
4 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter
2/3 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
Mix dry ingredients together in a separate bowl, set aside. Beat butter and shortening together. Add eggs, milk, vanilla and sugar. Beat well. Gradually add dry ingredients. Roll into balls. Dough works easier when chilled. Roll out, cut and bake.
Bake at 375 for 7-8 minutes.
For icing, I've had the best results with just powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Just add enough milk to make it the consistency you want. They're even good without the icing.
